The enigma that is Lila continues to haunt Elena to the end and we see it in this book. I think we know from the very first lines of My Brilliant Friend that there isn't really going to be a happy ending here but this last installment was full of heartbreak and sadness. Elena spends her whole life trying to figure out who she is and especially in juxtaposition to Lila. Is Lila her muse? Is she Lila's puppet? What is a meaningful life? It's heartbreaking. It's life in its full circle. It's so gripping it felt like I was part of it. I need to detach myself from this saga before I can write down a review or write about my experience reading this tetralogy. For the moment, I need to contemplate the effect of these last book on me.
