I would rate The Book of Strange New Things a 3.5. I felt like I was reading this book for a long, long time, and it moved at the speed of molasses. However, it was thought provoking and I'm sad Michael Faber will not be writing another novel. This is the October book for Friendly Readers and I'm glad I finished it before the discussion. This book is a bit hard to get into. The premise is interesting, about a pastor who got a missionary job in a new planet - Oasis, where a large corporation is preparing an alternate place for Earthlings to live in after the Earth destroyed. Peter, the pastor, tried to connect to the native of Oasis- the Oasans, who required a pastor sent to them in order to cooperate with the humans from Earth.
