A Few Faves:
the very thought of you

I really enjoyed this a lot! Some moments were so beautiful and well done, and some felt a bit more like what you would write on a mug or pillow of uplifting quotations, or what feels a little bit like I’ve heard it before, but that’s okay too. I know the illustrations aren’t anything fancy but I liked them. In general moments here were really moving and it’s made me excited to reconnect with more poetry.

I cannot think of a better book to read at the start of this new year. I have underlined so much and written notes in the margins and I plan to reread parts of it over and over again to remind myself of its wisdom and honesty. Every woman should read this. Every man who loves and wants to understand how a woman should be loved should read this. Stunning.

This didn't quite live up to the expectations built up by the hype. I thought a handful of poems were beautiful (wonderful turn of phrase). It was more violent and sexualized than I thought it was going to be. There were a few poems that brought to mind Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Moiressete. I'd recommend listening to that album. ...more

Impulse purchase based on glowing recommendations. There are a handful of good poems, but for the most part I thought it was over rated.

There are some good lines in here, and Kaur has some interesting viewpoints. However, as a whole it falls flat for me. What works on Instagram doesn't always work on the printed page; these work best as little bits that flit across your day suddenly, a jolt, an observation. They work much less well as a collected volume; there's just not enough substance. ...more

Lovely book of poetry. Sparse and elemental, accessible and raw.
