This novel continues to haunt me, days after finishing it. Blending magical realism with a story about sexual assault, Bond took me on a harrowing journey of violence, betrayal, aloneness, and, ultimately, healing and hope. Her writing is lyrical and earthy, atmospheric and opaque, some of the best and most evocative I’ve read in awhile.
