When I first started this book I thought that the characters were either too good or too bad, and the story more than a bit predictable, although the setting and the Loch Ness Monster raise it above the ordinary. Now I've just found out what a great book it is when you are stuck home on the couch having a sick day! Entertaining enough to take your mind off your symptoms and keep you awake, not requiring too much brain power when the brain is temporarily disabled. Maybe I need a new category? ...more

After a disgrace during a New Years Eve party Maddie, her husband Ellis and his best friend Hank travel to Scotland to film the loch ness monster and redeem Ellis' reputation. Maddie is frequently left by herself in the hotel and she begins to become friends with the people who work there and to see how sheltered her life has been. If this is available at the library, then I'd suggest picking it up, but it's not one I would want to keep on my shelves for a re-read, nor is it one that I would care to line up in my queue. It's okay, and I liked the ...more

4.5 I very much enjoyed this novel. Imagination combined with a bit of fantasy and experiencing a woman go through the darkness to become whole. Listened to the audio version read by Justine Eyre who did a superb job.

Having recently returned from a trip to Scotland, I happen to unintentionally picked up a book set in Scotland. Sara Gruen does it again! Different place, time, new set of characters. This is a well researched, intelligent and exciting novel. I didn’t want it to end and now that I have I wish I could start all over. The amount of historical detail and character development that has gone into this book really encourages you to embrace and appreciate the immense effort writers put into their work. ...more

I liked her first books best but then I'm a long time horse nut. This one complete with Irish loch monster is a little too disorganized for me. ...more
