My 11 year old daughter checked this out of the library, and then both kids wanted to play on the library computers so I was temporarily stranded (in the library!) without a book to read. So I picked this one up, and started reading. And when I closed it again, as we went on our way to finish our errands that day, I found I really really wanted to go back to it. We listened to this as a family, with kids 8-17 while on a road trip. Most of the kids listened and it kept the attention of all who did. The story is a little like Encanto in that their family have special gifts they get when they are 13 and have to learn to control. The two oldest brothers have electrical and weather powers. I read this several years ago--8 maybe? Enjoyed it enough that I recommended it to my kids. Maybe it is time to read it out loud to my younger crew...

A great Mom-Dot book club selection. The story is fun to read and addresses issues like bullying, individuality, perseverance, and family all in a way that isn't too much for tween readers. ...more
