In thrillers featuring a woman-in-peril plot, the prize at the heart of the plot is almost always a thinly sketched cipher of chaste femininity. Not so with O, and kudos to Winslow for giving his readers a noir heroine filtered through the lens of Cher in "Clueless" - she's a mess, but you can see why her boys adore her. The whole book moves with great intensity, and Winslow's deep understanding of narcotraficantes makes for tough, serious work underneath the SoCal patois.

Winslow has created a whole new genre of crime fiction: too cool characters wrapped around fast-paced action with wry commentary on life.
You can not help but route for the antiheroes of this story and tear through the pages in hopes they make out in the end with the money and the girl. Winslow's wit and wry observations on life are peppered through the pages, making SAVAGES and unforgettable read.
