I'm finding these Maigret mysteries by Simenon to be hit-or-miss, and not nearly as good as his stand-alone novels. This particular entry, published in 1931, is one of the earliest. In that way it's pretty interesting, giving you a glimpse of society between the wars. Lots of crisp detail and some great characterizations had me hooked early on.
