This is an excellent middle grade historical fiction/historical thriller set during the Revolutionary War. We loved Isabel's point of view in Chains (#1). We loved Curzon's point of view in Forge (#2). Now we patiently await Ashes (#3). In the meantime, we might give a few more of Laurie Halse Anderson books a try. It is a pleasure reading her words. She's fantastic writer. Who knew children's historical fiction could be so interesting and suspenseful? ...more

The epitome of quality young adult literature. Halse Anderson does an amazing job of creating a compelling YA story based on actual events and historical realities, and weaves humor and romance into it as well.

I enjoyed this book and had been wanting to read it for a while. I read the first book, Chains, a few months ago and was looking forward to launching into Forge to see what Isabel and Curzon were up to. It didn't disappoint. It gave me a picture of what life was like for soldiers in the Revolutionary War (not good). The story kept me interested and left me wanting to read the next book , Ashes, which comes out soon. ...more
