3.75 stars. I enjoyed this book. It was a fast read but not an easy read due to the fact that most every scene takes place inside an institution for disabled youth. Our health care system is wrong on so many levels that I've lost track. This is a perfect example of many of the problems. And the biggest victims are the sick people in need of quality care. However, as long as a few at the top continue to get rich because of it, the system will continue to nourish itself.

I always look forward to reading the Bellwether winner as the winner will be a literary fiction book that addresses issues of social justice. This book is the story of residents and employees of the Illinois Learning and Life Skills Center or as it was known to all ILLC, a nursing home for disabled youth. Kudos to the author for penning a diverse group of characters infusing their voices with dignity and strength in their pursuit for acceptance. This is a well needed voice in literature.
