I believe there are books that strike a chord because they are read at a receptive moment. For me, this is one of those books. I especially loved the introduction of Arthur; Moore understands the despair and fragility of loneliness and the selfishness of it. Arthur and Kel encounter, time and again, kind people who propel the story in different directions; this seems contrived, but only if you take the cynic's view of kindness and suffering.

Heft was full of endearing characters. Liz Moore made them feel so real; nothing about their feelings or actions felt artificial or forced. The relationship between Arthur and Yolanda was my favorite. The tireless chronicle of Kel’s experience in high school, while realistic, dragged on a bit too long though. However, overall, the story was a quick read. From the book’s summary, I had expected that Arthur and Kel would interact more, but that wasn’t the case at all, which was a tad disappointing

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the author's characters were wonderful. I stormed through the book because I cared so much about each of the characters. The use of "O" for Oh, and & for and was a little distracting, but besides that the writing was superb.
