I can’t remember when I’ve been this confused by a book. It started out clear; it was a story of two women, from two different times, one from the past and one from present day. April, the woman of present day, was assigned the task of preparing an abandoned apartment in Paris for auction. In the process she ran across the journal of the woman from the past, Marthe. I loved the Paris setting and I really enjoyed learning about the 'finds' inside the apartment. I also enjoyed the historical fiction sub-story. I just could not warm up to April. She was quite the drama-queen and rather self-centered. I couldn't figure out what she wanted from her husband and her father; although, I guess the point was that April didn't know either. I love Paris so this book was like a delicious treat for me. The plot and characters were very good but it was the ambiance that I really enjoyed. Several times the descriptions made me feel like I was back there walking the streets and experiencing the uniquely Parisian atmosphere again.
