This mystery was a riddle for my mind. I appreciate the refreshing take on the genre: we know who committed the murder early on but we have to figure out their motive. The narrative was so deftly controlled by Higashino; there was little to no meandering beyond the main storyline. When we do get glimpses into Detective Kaga's backstory, it's only as a means for him to figure out the crime. I can definitely see why Higashino is such a beloved mystery writer in Japan!

Delightful.
My second Higashino mystery and definitely not my last. His books are like sophisticated puzzles. This one alternated between the account of the killer and the account of the detective. It was a classic case of the unreliable narrator.
