I was very disappointed in this book. I greatly admire this author but this book did not come any where near to anything she has previously written. Very average.

Just finished Ripper, by Isabel Allende, translated by Frank Wynne. Popped up on my library suggestions and I figured it was a good hybrid for Halloween month and Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month in the U.S. Written after All ends moved to the U.S. and married a detective fiction author, Ripper began as a collaboration between the couple but when that proved an experiment that didn't work, Allende took on Ripper on her own. I love Isabelle Allende. I mean, I really LOVE Allende. She is always near the top of my list of favorite authors. It’s been years since I’ve read any of her books (I binge read them in college). Her writing is beautiful, it’s magical. Two of my all-time favorite novels are by Allende, Of Love and Shadows

I am struggling with this. The characters are interesting but the writing is cliche ridden and, frankly, not up to her usual standard. I think I am giving up.
