I know a lot of Oves. You can call them a lot of things—-grumps...curmudgeons—-but there is more to them than appears on the surface. People like Sonja look past the surface and see the depth there. It’s the charm of the story, seeing past the awful surface to the depth below, and looking closely at people who are able to do that.

What a great story! Ove is a grumpy man, at the best of times. Newly widowed, he is having a great deal of trouble dealing with his loss and with his life in general when a lively set of new neighbors moves into his neighborhood. He tries his best to continue to ignore them and to continue his very tragic plans but they keep interrupting and interfering, and in the best possible way, they draw him out of himself and bring him back to a redemption that he could never have imagined.
