I think we've all been there: you pretty much know you're not going to like the book, but you read it anyway, because all your friends love it, and every once in a while you're surprised and LOVE the book, and that small chance at love keeps you coming back again and again. But usually your intuition was correct and you hate the book. I hated this book. I never should have read it. It's not that it's a BAD book, it's just that this is not the book for me.

At first, this felt a bit too slow for me. It took time for me to feel relate to Ove. But I guess this book is the kind of book that you need to devour slowly. Ove started to grow on me, and by the end of the book, I want to make him my Grandpa!!! :D

This is my first experience reading Fredrik Backman's book, but I have heard a lot of good things about his other books - looking forward to reading them all. ...more

No spoilers. It took me a while to get into this book. Maybe 1/3 of the way through, I was hooked. By the end, I truly loved this book. It has a cast of characters who get developed along the way, and there are some aha moments, which intensify the further into the book you get. The author's semi-laid back style of divulging what happens by flashbacks is not in the typical way.
