Second book in the series and I liked it more than the first. I really enjoy the characters of Cormorant and Robin. All their conversations and interactions are interesting and sometimes even charming! But on the other had these procedurals drag on - the middle of the book seemed to be just one conversation after another - sometimes advancing the story and sometimes a red herring. cant say that I ever sympathized with the group of self absorbed authors and all their petty and no so petty grievan ...more

I'm really enjoying this series, and I'm especially drawn in by how Rowling uses the rich-texture skills honed over her non-pseudonymous work into a contemporary real-world setting. She puts forth just enough red meat about the milieu of publishing (similar to how she sent up celebrity culture in The Cuckoo's Calling) to feel like you're being tipped off by an insider, but wisely lets her characters run with the entirely fictional insider hatchet jobs.

Though I love Cormoran and Robin and the ancillary characters I felt the plot came to an unfulfilling end, though maybe she is just saving more for the next book. I hope so.

Well-written and interesting mystery series with great characters! Sometimes I think Rowling gets a little too convoluted and unrealistic with the plotline.
