This was a 3.5 read for me.

It was the title and cover that caught my attention but it is the captivating characters in this heartfelt story that kept me turning the pages. It is 1964 New Orleans and Ibby Bell is just shy of twelve years old and is being dropped off with an urn of her father’s ashes at her paternal grandmother’s house. EXCELLENT A must-read. If this is Laura Lane McNeal's "Debut" I can't wait to follow the upward trajectory of her writing! Superb characters and story, told in an engaging manner. For once a novel that lives up to its hype--I saw that "If you liked Saving CeCe Honeycutt and The Help, you'll love this" and it was so true. This books in near the top of that league.
