Anne Hillerman is the daughter of Tony Hillerman, who wrote 18 or so mysteries surrounding Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. Leaphorn, the lieutenant, is a more experienced officer who is serving as a mentor to Chee, more traditional and learning Navajo ways. Their cases involve Arizona and New Mexico and sometimes the borders of Colorado and Utah as well, overlapping federal investigators on their reservation land at times.
