I picked this up when seeking out fiction from El Salvador (there's a large Salvadoran community where I live), but am just now getting to it, some 40+ years after it was written. It seems to have been written with a nod towards Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's classic anti-Stalinist novella "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich."
