This is an unusual book to categorize; fundamentally, it's a book of idealised manners, but it has far more discussion and disagreement than you'd see in a modern book, given the form as dialogue. (Do I kind of hate signor Gaspare? Yes, I kind of hate signor Gaspare.) It's amazing as an artifact of Italian Renaissance life, and perhaps sometimes even has good advice!
