Through all Rumpole's stories, he keeps on referring to his early case, the Penge Bungalow Murders, which he did "alone and without a leader". So it was a thrill to find Rumpole finally telling this story, of himself as a young barrister rather than a crusty old lawyer - and also to catch a glimpse of how he and the formidable Hilda first got together! ...more
