Am I the last person to read this? I honestly wasn't interested, until I saw the movie preview (mostly because I don't love dark mysteries but also because Modern Mrs. Darcy didn't love it and I usually agree with her reviews). I've been avoiding this book because it seems to have been extremely popular and successful- usually a recipe for disaster. However, trapped at home by a high fever and needing something to read, it seemed an easy option. I was prepared to hate it, and initially wasn't disappointed- within 2 pages the metaphors started to annoy me- "avian fluttering" of eyelashes? huh? Just like potato chips.

I hated it but I had to finish it, and fast. It was entertaining to listen to and I wanted to know what happened but it made me feel kind of gross when it was over.

A true page-turner with less-than-lovable characters who lure you into their crazy world. I had a love/hate relationship with this book but my curiosity spurred me on to the end. And while I was hoping to put this story down for good, I am now tempted to see the movie which seems like a very creative interpretation of the book. If I could, I would rate this book 3.5 stars - 4 for the page turning quality and 3 for character development.

I don't see what all the fuss was about. Yeah, I guess big plot twist. I know the characters were meant to be disliked, but I think that made it boring for me. The ending was blah. However, I'm willing to give Flynn's other books a chance after hearing great reviews. ...more

Great read with twists & turns. Really liked the alternating perspectives of the husband (Nick) and the wife (Amy).
