I wish there were half stars. More than a three, not quite a four. I'm glad I finally read this as it has been on my list for a while. If you had asked me a third of the way in, it would have been a solid three. Ask me halfway, a five plus. Now that I've finished I've settled in at a three and a half. The ending left me underwhelmed but overall I think this book was good. It certainly kept me guessing and I was totally blindsided by the revelations in part two. ...more

I just can't seem to agree with popular opinion. I LOVE to read... but fell asleep multiple times when reading this book... it just dragged on and on. Will hold your complete attention from beginning to end. One of those books you can't wait to sit down and read.

While I anticipated most of the major twists due to being a fan of Flynn's earlier work, I'm still impressed at how well she pulls it off - the way she pushes and pulls your sympathies as a reader is truly masterful. The abrupt closing is a bit of a dead stop (and the primary reason why I knock a star), but overall, Flynn is right up there with Tana French and Laura Lippman as authors that have only continued to improve upon their already-prodigious talent with each new book.
