Gave up on this mess of a book--didn't finish it.
Chapter 1 reads like she watched the movie the "Right Stuff" and that's about it. It is written in that trendy, annoying new, "sassy"/hip/disrespectful tone that is starting to ruin non-fiction reading. Like aging Valley Girl does Master's thesis. Hope it gets better. The women themselves ARE interesting, just the style of writing that grates. Astro-everything is really wearing me down. The story itself IS interesting. But it's like Jr. High Schoo ...more

Not quite what I expected.
I was excited to read about these women and their lives as wives to astronauts. I was disappointed. I had hoped that it would be deeper than it was. It glossed and skimmed over so many parts. It was hard to feel connected to any of the wives. Just as you started to get to know each wife, it jumped on.
It is a great overview to the wives of astronauts, and some of the expeditions. I enjoyed learning the bit I did, and being able to takea peek into their lives,but a peek ...more

Listened to this one on audio. It was okay. Took me more than one attempt to get through it. It was a lot of reporting and not storytelling. The women's celebrity status and ways of interacting were interesting as I really hadn't given the wives of the astronauts much thought previously. The history that happened at this time was more fascinating though and makes me want to read more about the late 60s and early 70s in general and the start of women's lib, Janis Joplin, Woodstock,, Robert Kenned
