A fascinating look at ancient Egypt’s royalty and its inherent gender roles/expectations. I learned a lot about ancient Egyptians’ relationships to gods and how their royal system works. Hawker writes convincingly about a time and place far back in history and captures the sights, smells, and sounds of the royal palace and temple where most of the story takes place. She also creates tension really well between the two sisters who are both vying for the new pharoah’s affection. I appreciated how
