This book has been getting a ton of hype. And that had me a bit wary as so many books that get hyped to the max don't actually end up living up to the hype. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor comes to mind....... But this? This totally lives up to the hype. I heartily enjoyed this book. It's well plotted for one thing, for those of you who like your alien invasion books more on the realistic side, this definitely fits the bill. I don't believe in aliens at all myself, but if I did, I cou

And that's the big question. What is the 5th Wave? Don't worry, you'll find out ...
This book was absolutely fantastic. The first chapter is amazing, moody, freaky, creepy, just seriously unsettling.
"1st Wave: lights out. 2nd Wave: surf's up. 3rd Wave: pestilence. 4th Wave: Silencer. What's next, Evan? What is the 5th Wave???"

Great choice for the first book of the new year! exciting story and done in a interesting way - alien invasion apocalypse in a young adult style. A few 'reminders' of ideas from famous sci-fi alien stuff, TV mostly, but enough of its own to not matter. Some reviewers on here dislike the sappy way the young teenage protagonist thinks...so I guess they've forgotten how young teenage girls think ;) Obviously the 'twist' was entirely obvious from the start and watching the characters slowly work it

Aliens have taken up residence in the sky right above us. No one knows what they look like or what they want. People are hopeful for peaceful coexistence but that is not the plan. Possession of earth comes in waves.
The 1st wave is Lights Out. Goodbye electricity and anything battery operated.
The 2nd wave is Surf's Up. A giant wave takes out the coasts and all the people who live there.
The 3rd wave is a Pestilence and disease spreads like wildfire. No family is untouche ...more

I had high hopes for this book, I really liked the premise. I guess I should have read a bit more about it, I thought it was an adult novel but it's really YA. That's not bad in and of itself but it really showed in the sort of juvenile nature of the relationships and the very neatly tied ends of each subplot. It was not awful or unreadable but I think it could have been much, much better. That being said, I would consider reading the next one if this is a series. I do very much regret spending

Read this for FYA book club ... enjoyed it way more than I expected to.

I'll see the movie and read the rest of the series.
