Not as lighthearted as some of Block's other series characters, Scudder is relentless and has his heart in the right place,even though he resorts to some practices that aren't acceptable to law enforcement types.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this and will definitely continue with the series, but I can't rank this with my other four-star rated books. I love Lawrence Block though. He's always a dependably good read, no matter which series we're talking about.
