3.75 stars. I love this series. I can't think of any book in it that I didn't like.
This isn't my favorite in the series, but, full disclosure: I'm not crazy about the audiobook reader (and I listened to most of this), and I skipped T, U and V to listen to this latest title in the series with my husband (who is all caught up) during a recent road trip.
Spending time with these characters feels like spending time with family, and I love Kinsey's attitude and sense of humor. The mystery was just o ...more

It’s been a long time since I read a Kinsey Millhone mystery, and I don’t know if I changed or the books changed, but this was not great. It felt long and tired and drawn out. Grafton’s style is to throw all the details at you, so it’s not obvious what will be an important clue, and that’s fine, but also felt very tedious here. That said, some details were very clearly projected at us to be important and that felt clumsy, too. Grafton is not at the top of her game in this one.

It was OK. A familiar, warm-time-spent-with-an-old-friend, but no sparks. I like the series, the Kinsey character, and the supporting cast (although some of the beloved older characters are now approaching an age when one anticipates a shift to nursing home residency or a funeral farewell). Any other comments would be spoilers and the book is predictable enough without me revealing more.

It has been a while since I have read a Kinsey Milhone book, and I had forgotten how good they are. This one was excellent, and I am happy that I already have "X".

Now I'm up to date with Grafton, but I rue the fact there are only three more to go.
