This is my 4th book in the Gabriel Allon series and I wish I had read them in order. He is one of my favorite recurring characters in a book series. The book takes place in Russia, London, Israel and France. Since there are 10 in the series, I may start from the beginning. The books are fast reads and hard to put down.

Silva has drifted away from the art-history leanings of early entries in the series (much to my chagrin, since I love that sort of thing), but he still knows how to pace a story and doesn't put the perfect-guy polish on Allon that thriller writers tend to apply to their long-running protagonists. That said, it may be time for Silva to branch his series to follow other characters, since it's clearly increasingly difficult for him to come up with new mortal perils for Gabriel. ...more
