This was a friends recommendation. Excellent novel, I totally enjoyed this one. It's about a jinn (made from fire) and a golem (a creature made from clay and brought to life through dark magic) and their struggles to live in New York among humans. It doesn't make things easier that both the jinn and the golem are bond to a master and a creator.
This is very well written and past the middle point I love the way everything comes together.

Very beautiful writing and complex & interesting characters. I loved this story's setting and mythology, it was extremely enthralling. However, it was a tad slow and confusing at times. Not to mention I wasn't a fan of the ending. But Chava the Golem was a fantastic character to read about. I'm glad I picked this up!

Really enjoyed it and felt like I learned even more about the immigrant experience and of other cultures. I've heard the term 'Golem' but never had known exactly what it was or the folklore behind it. Wecker does an excellent job navigating the reader through the story of Chava (the golem) and The Jinni who is from the Syrian desert. I truly loved the idea behind this book; two folkloric characters from two different cultures are catapulted into 19th century New York City where, unbelievably, they one day cross paths. One is made of fire and has lived a rich life across hundreds of years, one is born of wet clay and has just woken up to the world for the first time.
