This is 4.5 stars for me. Mankell gets better and better as this series progresses and Kurt Wallander continues to be a masterful character. Authentic, individualistic, bordering on depressive, dealing with his insecurities, middle aged maleness, anxious and introverted. And a bloody amazing detective. This is a brilliantly plotted story with undertones of moral dilemma. As always I’m looking forward to the next Wallander installment.

An exploration of the idea of vigilantism from both the deeply personal and the more organized angles. Very interesting and, as always, a glimpse into the inner workings of a middle-aged man who questions everything about his life and cares deeply about those around him even when he makes no time, spends no effort to relay this caring. I don't think you can read these books without questioning your own place in the world, your own choices. ...more

Αγαπημένος Βαλάντερ! Γρήγορη πλοκή, μυστήριο, ένας Βαλάντερ κουρασμένος από το θάνατο του πατέρα του αλλά και από την κατάσταση στη σουηδική κοινωνία.
