Darker and darker yet... Martin is an author of stories frightening and sorrowful both, this I knew already. But this book! Betrayal upon betrayal and murder most foul, not to mention the dead who get back up and come back to take their revenge upon the living.

One thing about this series which is strange to me: usually a story has a hero and a villain, a good guy and a bad guy, they battle each other and the story ends when the hero defeats the villain once and for all. Not this story! There a c ...more

Stuff happened! A lot of stuff happened.

This is easily the strongest book in the series so far in part because it felt like all of the various storylines progressed significantly.

There were lots of twists and turns, deftly handled.

I still think the Daenerys storyline is the weakest.

I finally got around to reading the third book and really enjoyed it. I will be starting on book 4 soon, just in time for book 5 to come out in July! Then I shall join the hordes of fans waiting for him to write the next book.

in a love-hate relationship with this series.. it's so REAL i can't put it down.. you would thought that after thr 3rd book you'd feel more numb but no, still feel the ouch and the urge to say "whyyyyy...????!!!!" ...more
