Eeeeeeee. I have to give this two stars. I angled for three, but when I saw two starts defined as "it was ok" that's where it had to land.
I read the reviews about the slow start. I read the reviews about the footnotes on Audible. I went forward with it anyway. I waited for it to get really good. It just never got there for me.

Why was this so popular? Where are the women? It's just plain weird to read a fantasy novel that's just lousy with men and have not a single strong female character. I gave up.

Liked this book better second time around (although I have a "don't change the ratings for rereads" policy)
