As I mentioned regarding the Hunger Games, I tend to judge books I know to be successful more harshly. It's a fault.
Anyway, Catching Fire took a bit of time to get into and Katniss, well, she's still a bit slow (which is okay, because half the time she's just a vehicle for readerly experience).

What can I say but if you read the first book, you had to be drawn to the second.
I was freaking out when I found that all the victors had to go back into the arena to fight again. What a rip off to have spent your life thinking you were safe and then you get pulled into the mess all over again. I felt so sorry for the older victors who had to play in the games.

This is really more like a 2.5 than a 3. I was eager to immediately jump into this sequel after reading the Hunger Games, but this one was definitely a disappointment. I was hoping to learn more about this dystopian world's history and politics - how it actually functions. Instead, what I got was more paper-thin background that was supposed to suffice in fueling the primary conflict of this series - specifically the uprisings.
