I really like the first book. Even though the premise has been used many times before Suzanne executed it well. This is the sequel. The beginning was interesting because of the aftermath of the first book and the soap opera. Of course the there is some intrigue with possible uprisings throughout the districts. But once the story returns to the capital and the killing games 2 it quickly becomes a re-run. I skipped a ton of pages to get to the predictable ending. I was definitely letdown by this s ...more

Catching Fire

I liked this one better than Hunger Games, even though Bella’s Katniss’ love triangle problems tended to get on my nerves. A lot.

There’s a lot of potential for the development of solidarity through the development of alliances here, if contestants in the Hunger Games were able to overrule their survival instinct in sacrifice for the “greater good”. Not as good as the first one. One of the big reasons is that the time in the arena felt rushed and you don't get as much excitement out of it. Also, this book was a lot more predictable so I didn't spend as much time trying to guess what was going to happen. I had an idea of how it would end about halfway through. The reason this book was good is because the world collins' created is very engaging and, once you get through the boring part in the beginning, the pace picks back up. ...more

Sucessful follow-up to the excellent Hunger Games, CATCHING FIRE isn't as strong as its predecessor, largely because the world and Katniss' situation are no longer new to us or come as a shock, but also because she spends a lot of time building up to the second hunger games and not enough time actually in them. That being said, the story and characters are still engrossing and you can't not enjoy going along for the ride. Will be reading the third and final book in the trilogy, MOCKINGJAY, asap. ...more

Like the Hunger Games, I read Catching Fire then immediately watched the movie on Netflix. I like Jennifer Lawrence and Woody Harrelson, but the movies leave a lot to be desired. The books are much better. What do you think?
