Rescued by the Gamemaster, Katniss becomes the Mockingjay, a symbol of freedom used by District 13 to convince the other districts to rebel. This story chronicles the second civil war of Panem.
The weakest of the three books, I felt the story could have benefited with a bit more action and less exposition after the battle at the Capital in particular. The ending was not as well crafted as the rest of the series and I think would have benefited from another 100 to 150 pages to hold up to the quali ...more

I'm a huge fan of the Hunger Games trilogy. While the first two books focused on violence and reality TV, this one tackles violence and war. Collins has such a clear vision of the dystopian Panem, and her heroine Katniss - with her incredible strengths and flaws - had me turning pages when I should have been sleeping. Possibly even more brutal when you can hear the anguish in Katniss' voice. Carolyn McCormick is an amazing narrator and really brought the various characters to life. I'm still a bit disappointed with the wrapup of the trilogy, but it was definitely worth revisiting.

A satisfying conclusion to the series.

This had me so twisted up in emotional knots that I had a headache. The only problem I had was that the very ending seemed too tidy. Yeah, I know lots of horrible stuff happened, but I didn't get to see how CERTAIN things were worked out to make the end possible. The end is what I wanted, but how did it happen? The detail oriented part of me wants to know.

None of the spark of the first two books. Katniss is turning into Bella and it's not a pretty sight. Too bad.
