4.0 to 4.5 stars. An excellent novel as well as an important one. Those two concepts don't always go well together but this is one classic that is also a very good book.

* update 2016: On a world of distraction, a personal challenge, the ongoing relevance of Fahrenheit 451.
So Ray Bradbury’s dark vision of an illiterate society, as described in Fahrenheit 451, has not to pass in the USA. Books were never banned, at least not here. I know there are many other countries where books are heavily censored. In fact, just recently, the Chinese Communist government was accused of kidnapping several Hong Kong booksellers.

One of my very favorite books--love, of course, the anti-censorship message here, as well as Bradbury's prediction of the future of entertainment, which feels particularly canny with shows like The Hills rising in popularity. Language/imagery beautiful as well.
Recently listened to the Audiobook edition where Bradbury does the reading...he has a positively strange voice...imagine Eric Cartman grown up, and that was difficult to get used to, but for me, it was also rewarding to listen to the lege ...more

In the future, Firemen burn books and everyone is entertained all their waking hours. Are we getting close?

I'm rereading this book for participation in One Book One Waco, fall 2008. I think I liked the book better the first time I read it.
