This was a longer read that I imagined it to be. Verne's style is to emerge the reader in as much detail as absolutely possible. the result is a story that takes a back seat to so many varieties of fish and fauna and corals and reefs and water patterns that the adventure aspect suffers greatly because of it. I expected so much more from this book primarily because I have heard so many great things about it and it gets so much attention that you assume it is going to rock. I spent the vast majority of this book being bored. I enjoyed certain aspects of the book such as how Verne was able to envision technology so far beyond his time. I expected more. I can't really say exactly what more actually but something was less than what I expected. All the zoology references put me away. I was not really interested to get to know the underwater fauna so I skipped a lot of the we-saw-this-amazing-fish-and-we-had-to-classify-it parts. Also the ending was quite abrupt. Taking place in about 1,5-2 pages is not something I expected or understood.
