An absolutely fantastic, undeservably forgotten SF Masterpiece. Relentless action in prose that hardly ever skips a beat. Gully Foyle was also an atypical science fiction "hero" for that time - dark, morally ambivalent and considerably anti-heroic. Bester helped to expand the boundaries of Science Fiction as a medium through this novel, the Demolished Man and his wondeful short stories and deserves to be remembered for that.

I loved the storytelling--it's cinematic and paced like an action movie. I loved the distinct world he created and the imaginings of the future. I was willing to somewhat ignore his use of words like "Oriental" and "Negro" because that's what you are trained to do: forgive white guys in the 1950s thier racism. But ultimately that plus the misogyny made this book unlovable for me.
