I found this book really difficult to put down. Hobb does a very nice job with gradually developing the characters. She focuses mostly on 2-3 of them, but pulls them through the story terrifically.

The bastard, boy, newboy, young Fitz, Tom, and ‘you’ has many identities within the kingdom and even more within himself. He carefully determines each situation with kindness and regard for his companions. While some accept him, a few do not and his life remains in danger throughout the journey. Howev

Now that I've finished the entire 16 book series, I would recommend reading the Farseer Trilogy, the Liveship Trilogy, and then the Tawny Man Trilogy. Do yourself a favor and stop there.

For me, the story was only OK. Not my style. Seemed more like short stories put together without one over-arching story line moving everything forward. The "bad guys" were stupid and not believable. Outcomes predictable. It had potential at the beginning but just seemed to slowly get uninteresting as it went. Climax at the end was contrived. Certainly nothing is driving me to want to continue the trilogy. ...more

Read these in '98. My then wife picked up the trilogy at our local bookstore for a trip she was taking. She read the first one before she left. I read it and loved it and couldn't wait for her to get back so I could read the other two! *LOL*

Great series. Good memories. Books, like foods often bring back the first time you "tasted" them. Where you were, what you were doing, etc.
