Robert Jordan was an excellent writer. I first discovered him from his conan books. A friends advice pointed me back at these books and I figured I owed it to myself to delve into the 14 book collection and see if I could read the entire series in less than a year. The challenge is on. Not sure if I can do it or not but I'll give it a go.
The Eye of the World is story in which Rand enters onto the road of self discovery as he tries to avoid the capture/death at the hands of a Myrddraal.

I really liked this book and the possibilities. Jordan's imagination was amazing! But this series went on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on and you get my meaning I hope I covered all the books. I cannot rate this book.

I have read many reviews on this book and most people loved it for a fantasy series book. Some of my friends called (the first six included) it the greatest science fiction novel they have read.

After all these years, I'm happy to say that I still enjoy Eye of the World as much as ever. Sure, there are things in the book that these days seem hackneyed, but at the time, they were bold new steps in fantasy, and I think that deserves some respect. The reason these sort of things became so common is in large part due to how well Jordan handled them. All told, I firmly believe this is a must read for anyone who wants to have a clue about modern fantasy and how the genre has come to be where ...more
