This is my first reading of any Robert Jordan book, and I found it merely adequate in comparison to my favorite authors. Jordan, at least in this first book, does not have the emotional power that Goodkind has; the weight of history and legend, the fullness of the world that Tolkien has; nor the high tension and last-minute plot twists that Martin has. There was a lot that I did not remember from when I read this a few years ago.

This is my review of the whole series. I didn't start reading this series until all but the last book he released was published. It's eleven books long and the first 4-5 are great and by then you're too invested to stop reading when he piles on too much detail, you just want to say get on with it and tell us what happens. I've reread it once before the 11th book came out- still a great series. I really liked the prequel he wrote also.

It's not quite as good as I remember, but it still really pulled me along.
