I appreciated this book far more my second time around, although I can understand why my younger self was frustrated with it. The beginning is pretty slow unless you are fully invested in LOTR. Another major challenge with the book is the huge cast of characters which is further complicated by them often having similar names. The hundreds of locations are difficult to keep track of also.
