What can I say about this book that has not already been said? The book is insane... pure madness. If you are one of the few that gets all the way through then congrats to you!
The story on the surface is a battle of the old god versus the new gods.

Below the surface the story is about what we long for we worship and there is room in America to worship the old cultures as well as embracing the new designs and features of modern society. What makes America unique is that we are designed to accept t

A fascinating book. Gaiman takes elements from mythologies across the globe and weaves them into a contemporary fantasy that's unlike any other book I've read. Really, there was nothing to NOT like about the book. The characters were all well rounded, and it was a lot of fun to see how different gods interacted with other gods. For one thing, these gods are vastly diminished in power. It's not like you're seeing all powerful Zeus engaged in Mighty Battle with Thor or anything like that. No, in t ...more

One describes a tale best by telling the tale. You see? The way one describes a story, to oneself or to the world, is by telling the story. It is a balancing act and it is a dream. The more accurate the map, the more it resembles the territory. The most accurate map possible would be the territory, and thus would be perfectly accurate and perfectly useless.
The tale is the map that is the territory.
You must remember this.

Yep, I just finished reading American Gods Special Edition which is close to 600 pages long and long it is. This is a novel that I really wanted to love as I've heard many great things. American Gods follow the adventures of Shadow, an ex-con who is thrown in the middle of a 'storm' after meeting a gentleman who calls himself Wednesday. But after finishing the novel I felt unsatisfied, wanting more out of this novel than was offered. I think one main problem I had with American Gods was that it ...more

Loved this book and love Gaiman. He is one of my favorite writers. He's right on up there with Gibson for me. His works are always entertaining and have just enough bizarre, crepy stuff going on to keep me engrossed and happy. It's about a war between Heaven and Hell basically with the Gods and Demons coming to earth and manipulating some humans along the way to take aprt in their war. Very entertaining and probably my favorite Gaiman book that I have read. If you like Gothic style fantasy/horro ...more

In "American Gods", author Neil Gaiman poses the question: "what happens to ancient gods when no one believes in them anymore?". The answer is a little bit Steven King, a little bit Steven Wright and a little bit Stephen Hawking. That disparity can throw the reader at times, but stick with it. The result is interesting and entertaining, if not always engaging. ...more
