5.5 stars. This is one of the most brilliantly written books I have ever read and I believe it is a work of special genius (no pun intended based on the subject matter of the book). This is not an EASY book to read and is not what I would describe as TONS of FUN. This is only my second C.J. Cherryh novel, and I liked it very much. I found it to be a more intimate, character-driven story than Downbelow Station.
This takes place almost entirely at a research institute called Reseune which specializes in human cloning. They also produce special clones known as “Azi” who are subjected to intense conditioning from birth which gives them a different psychological makeup from regular humans. The Azi exist largely as an enslaved workforce.
