5.5 stars. I loved this book!!! The world of the Black Company is absolutely amazing and reading this book was a BLAST. Great characters, great world-building and a terrific plot. Can't ask for much more than that. HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION!!!

I enjoyed this one very much...not a five star joy, but four and "just" at that. I was a little put off by the overabundance of magic but admired how Cook didn't allow it to overshadow his characters and become a focus of the story. He did a good job of blending there...something I need to remember for my own writing. The dialogue was at times challenging to unravel, but once in "the groove", I got it and eventually "heard" the characters conversing. All in all, it was a welcome break from the D
