Started really strong, but I feel like it fell of in the end. Took me forever to read it too. I started during Thanksgiving weekend, read about 1/2 or more over a couple days and loved it. It faded and I stopped reading, but I finished it. I was complete uninspired by Brawne Lamia's and The Consul's stories, which is disappointing considering I figure they will be the main characters in the second half of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The format was refreshing and the pace ran at a good clip. The characters were all likeable, for the most part. I found the prose more complex and dense than the average sci-fi novel, which I like.
One criticism would be that although the characters were all generally likeable, a few of them were hard to get emotionally vested in, like Martin Silenus and the Consul. I was also a little dissappointed to see another wiz-bang technology (Farcasters) featured without m ...more
