My hat definitely goes off to Mr. Haldeman, because this book was very original. I thought that (view spoiler) was interesting. One of the most interesting things about science fiction books is looking at how the author envisions the future. Almost always, the author thinks sex is one of the major changes. At first I hated it due to the disjointed style of writing and the sexism. But by the end, I enjoyed it. The disjointedness of the writing reinforced the tone of alienation that William Mandela goes through as a soldier and time traveler. Haldeman goes where few sci-fi writers dare to tread: dealing with realities of relativity. I realized that my initial reaction was probably what he was trying to elicit. Rightfully considered a classic. I don't think it's my type of reread material but it was a great book. Haldeman managed to describe alienation from your own kind in a totally believable way.
