I have read this book twice and I have to say the second time reading it was much better. I love the philosophy discussed in this book however I agree with others comments that it was too "wordy" at times and hit extremely dull parts along the storyline.

I also hate the fact that the book does not wrap any of the plots up except the World of Path. Even so I felt like the ending was rushed and poorly done.

The bickering between Andrews family is also crude and makes it extremely difficult to imagine some of the characters like Quara and Grego as adults in their late thirties. I still see them as the same uncontrollable children from speaker for the dead. Both these characters are incredibly unlikable. I do think that these two characters should not have been the deciding factors between many of the plots. Also Novinha in my eyes was a total “buzz-kill.” I know she has had a lot of pain in the past but personally I hate this women and hate the way she brings Andrew down who loves her.

However the story line was very good and I believe that it is essential to people who love Ender to read this book as this is by far the most scientific which is of course what a sci-fi book should contain. I enjoyed many parts in this book and even felt extremely sad when the people of Lusitania cause great hurt to the piggy’s and vice-versa. I also enjoyed the story of Path. Whereas Qing-jao was quite unlikable her father and Wang-mu were not. I enjoyed the idea that the government had created a world of smart human beings but had devised a way to enslave them as well. It is one of Orson Scott Card’s most brilliant ideas in my opinion. The sad truth about the World of Path is what makes this book so intriguing and worth the read.
Anyone who is stuck in the Enders series can not afford to skip over this book lightly and should be read.
